On a night the Flames got a glimpse of their potential future with goalie Joni Ortio and forward Markus Granlund playing their first big-league games, Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown was the offensive catalyst and goalie Jonathan Quick was perfect in Thursday’s 2-0 affair.
“We just couldn’t score,” Flames head coach Bob Hartley said. “Quick was real good. A couple of powerplay chances, he came out and made some huge saves.
“I’m very happy with both guys,” Hartley said. “Joni, even before the game, I watched him pretty closely — and he was solid. This morning, he didn’t show any nervousness. Before the game, I was anxious to see how he would get on the ice, and he was ready for that start. Whenever you don’t give any goals to a goalie, it’s pretty tough for him to win a game, but Joni played good.
“And Granlund made some great plays. He didn’t seem out of place at all. For his first game, I liked his game also.”
