Calgary came within 10.1 seconds of winning in regulation, but Taylor Hall scored with 10 seconds left to deny goaltender Reto Berra his first NHL shutout.
Jiri Hudler, who had been up all night with the flu, beat Oilers goaltender Devan Dubnyk in overtime to give the Flames the well-deserved win.
That said, the Oilers certainly had their chances. For the most part you could tell that the Flames were a sick and tired team willing their way through the third period. It was really defeating to watch Hall take Calgary’s first shutout of the year away so close to the end of the game.
I thought that Butler played badly. He had some horrible giveaways in his own end, including the one at the end of the game that tied it up.
Next up? Jarome Iginla and the Boston Bruins.
