Flames 3, Canadiens 2

10 Oct

For the third time this young season the Flames jumped out to an early and commanding lead, this time 3-0 over Montreal before the game was half over. Sean Monahan continued to make the already-made decision to send him back to the minors more difficult to announce after nine games with two points to continue his point-per-game pace. He played on a line with Sven Baertschi and Lee Stempniak which looked like Calgary’s top line at times.

Joey MacDonald started his third game in a row, which is weird, but continues to make ridiculous saves when his team needs it the most. So maybe Bob Hartley’s ‘gut feeling’ to keep playing him is adding up to wins? Doesn’t he know how a rebuild works? We’re not after wins here!

So the Flames are now 2-0-2 after four games, their best start since they came to the NHL 33 years ago. Wow, how sad is that?

Your last comment is incorrect. In recent memory alone, the Flames got off to a better start in the 2009-2010 season in which they started 4-0 before going to 7-2-1 after ten games, which is tied for their best start in franchise history.
