Flames 4, Blue Jackets 3

05 Oct

Even the offensive firepower of Blake Comeau couldn’t stop the Flames on this night, as Joey MacDonald backstopped Calgary to the first win of the season. We’re above .500, can you believe it!

Sean Monahan scored his first goal, which was nice to see. Glencross scored his first and Sven Baertschi did some back-checking.

Perhaps tellingly, Calgary GM Jay Feaster stated earlier this week that the nine games Monahan can play before burning a year off his NHL contract can be “spread over the course of three months if we decide to do it.” So far (stress, so far) he seems to be learning on the job rather swimmingly.

Capitals 5, Flames 4 (SO)

05 Oct

The Flames jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after the first period of play. I think that kinda surprised all of us. However in the second period when it was 4-1 Flames, the predictions started getting tossed out – Capitals will win this 5 to 4.

Which happened, but at least Calgary scored four goals, right?
