What?! The Flames win in overtime? What are the odds?
What are the odds that they’d do it with their backup, and without Michael Cammalleri? Yes it’s Columbus, but at this point of the season every team (except maybe Washington) is worse than Calgary is. On top of that, the Flames are not known for their extra time/shootout prowess.
Also Mikael Backlund got hurt after he scored his third of the year. So that’s with Cammy and Kipper. Four with Sven.
Tanguay’s overtime goal is the exact type of moment that can turn a season around for a team, as the Flames have now won two straight. Still tied for last, but a win on Saturday will move them into 10th.
Calgary is hoping the momentum continues as they head into a heated showdown with the rival Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
Update: Miikka Kiprusoff and Mikael Backlund both got put on injured reserve Friday. Michael Cammalleri remains day to day with a hip flexor and rookie Sven Baertschi is still week to week with a hip flexor. Kiprusoff was added to the IR retroactively and is considered day to day with a lower-body injury. Backlund is expected to miss 4 to 6 weeks. The Flames have activated defenseman Anton Babchuk. Lord help us.
