Avalanche 2 – Flames 1 (OT)

21 Mar

The Flames have definately hit a wall. They have lost three in a row, and two of those games were against the worst two teams in the league.

They were outplayed, outhit and outgoaltended in this game. The officiating was horrible, absolutly brutal, in Calgary’s favour. The Flames didn’t take one penalty all night, although they should have… and Colorado took three, although they only deserved one.

The Flames deserved to lose this game, and are lucky to get the point. Although now they have dropped from 40% to 25% making the playoffs. Remember this point when the Avs beat out Calgary for 8th place by a single point.

The good news is that both Blake Comeau and Lee Stempniak are back, the bad news is that now Cory Sarich is hurt. He looked concussed too.

Blue Jackets 2 – Flames 1 SO

21 Mar

Have to cheat again, this will be the last time. From NHL.com

While the Calgary Flames in contention to capture a berth in the highly-contested Western Conference, Steve Mason and the 30th-place Blue Jackets earned a 2-1 shootout victory at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Sunday night, limiting their opposition to just one point in the thick of their intense playoff chase.

The 11th-place Flames were also unable to come away with the win against the 29th-ranked Edmonton Oilers on Friday, giving them just one of a possible four points against the two basement clubs this weekend.

Methinks the Flames have hit a wall.

Oilers 3 – Flames 1

21 Mar

I’ve been away the past few days, so I’m going to have to cheat a bit. From NHL.com:

The Oilers put a dent in Calgary’s postseason hopes on Friday night as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored twice in a 3-1 victory at Rexall Place. Jordan Eberle scored the other goal and assisted on both of the tallies by Nugent-Hopkins as the Oilers won their second in a row.

“It was huge for us to win this game,” said Nugent-Hopkins, the first player taken in last June’s NHL Draft. “It’s as close to a playoff game as we are going to have this year. It was a lot of fun playing in a game like that. There was so much intensity and emotion out there.”

Have the Flames hit a wall? I guess we’ll know over the next few games.
