The Battle of Alberta doesn’t seem to be that much of a battle lately. I mean, if Lee Stempniak can score a hat trick en route to Calgary’s ninth straight win against Edmonton, that’s darn near a drubbing. The Oilers have beaten the Flames once in their last 17 attempts. Ouch.
I thought that this game showed that the compete level the Flames brought to the LA and San Jose games translates into more lopsided wins when efforted against a sub-par team. That’s right, I said efforted, to use a Rob Kerr word.
Speaking of Rob Kerr… I am a fan of his radio personality, but not so much as a play-by-play guy. But oh my lord is he head and tails above Mark Lee and Kevin Weekes. Those guys are brutal.
“OOOOOOOOHH WHAT A SAVE BY ONE OF THE GOALTENDERS ON THAT HOWITZER OF A WRISTER FROM CENTRE ICE!!!!”
“Well, you gotta make saves to prevent goals Mark.”
That’s not far off from their actual comments. I think the actual comments were “a howitzer of a shot from Hall” after a wrist shot from the blue line, and “as a goalie, I would never do pre-game warmup without a helmet.” Thanks Captain Obvious.
