Blackhawks 4 – Flames 2

19 Dec

The Flames were never really in this game. Come to think of it, they are never really in games in Chicago. It doesn’t help that the Flames were shorthanded for 30 minutes.

The highlights of the game were provided by Cory Sarich who layed out a couple of Hawks with big hits. Speaking of which Rene Bourque was kicked out of the game for clobbering Brent Seabrook, it’s Seabrook’s third big hit to the head in three years. We’ll wait and see what happens to Bourque.

Chicago media reported Seabrook lay “on the ice for several minutes” so I went back to check. I counted 14 seconds, nice work mainstream media.

Panthers 3 – Flames 2 (SO)

19 Dec

This was Leland Irving’s first start, and he looked shaky in the first period and had problems controlling rebounds early. But he settled down and made his share of nice saves.

Bourque gave Calgary a 2-1 lead at 3:55 of the third with a power-play goal. With Kris Versteeg in the penalty box for slashing, Bourque took a pass from Jokinen to the left of Theodore and beat him with a close-in shot that went between his body and left arm. However Calgary would go on to blow this lead, to continue the winlessness on the this road trip.
