After a pretty sloppy first period the Flames seemed to pick it up a bit, although they certainly were not playing against any world-beaters from Long Island. Christ, Evgeni Nabokov and Steve Staios were their best players – that’s right, they are both Islanders now!
Stajan made a pretty sweet pass to set up Glencross for Calgary’s first, and Stempniak had the other. Henrik Karlsson played the whole game and earned the shutout, but only faced 13 shots and not one of them seemed very threatening.
The 2-3-0 Flames wrap up their pre-season Thursday with a against the visiting Phoenix Coyotes. And what’s with the preseason schedules this year? Calgary only plays 6 preseason games, while Edmonton has 8, and the Islanders have only 5. Anyone know? Is it up to each organization?
