Man, I didn’t even hear this announcement. Um, maybe Flames brass cared as much as I do about it.
CALGARY, AB – The Calgary Flames announced today the signing of defenceman Brendan Mikkelson.
“We are very pleased that Brendan has chosen to re-sign with the Flames and continue his professional development with our organization,” said Flames General Manager Jay Feaster. “He has demonstrated that he is on the verge of cracking our line-up on a full-time basis, and he remained on our roster all year because we knew we would have lost him on waivers had we tried to send him to the AHL. We had excellent discussions with Brendan during our exit meetings and reviewed the things he needs to do in order to break into the line-up. He is a very valuable addition to our depth on the blue line, and we look forward to seeing his progress in camp this year.”
Mikkelson, a native of Regina, Saskatchewan, has 86 games of NHL experience between Anaheim and Calgary. He has six assists and 40 penalty minutes over parts of three NHL seasons. Brendan also has 150 games of AHL experience with 15 goals, 34 assists for 49 points and 115 penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by Anaheim in the 2nd round (31st overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Contract terms: One year, two-way contract with a an average annual value of $721,900.
