The Calgary Flames continue to shore up their defensive corps, signing free agent Derek Smith on Wednesday. The 27-year-old picked up 10 goals and 44 assists in 71 regular season games with the Binghamton Senators, placing him fourth among AHL defencemen. Smith has played in a total of 11 National Hockey League games with the Ottawa Senators
Smith comes to the Flames after a championship season in the American Hockey League. He was inked to a one-year, two-way contract at $700,000.
