Flames 4 – Lightning 2

08 Dec

So in keeping with the plan of only playing hockey for 40 mins/game, the Flames strung together about 25 minutes at the beginning of the game and 15 minutes at the end. There was a while there where you couldn’t help but think they were going to blow their three-goal lead.

So Moss was the odd man out last night, even though all signs pointed to Jokinen. Robb Kerr mentioned that he didn’t think any fans would think that a mistake. And he’s right. Actually we’d prefer him to sit out, I’m going to Google some Jokinen stats… hold on a sec…

So his 2 goals this year rank him 326th in the league, Anton Babchuk (our 5th defenceman) has twice as many goals this year as Jokinen does. His -5 make him tied for 606th in the league. This guy is a waste of space. Please Sutters, cut him from the team.

Other than that, it was nice to see Bourque back scoring (NHL’s 2nd star of the night) – and Iginla continue to produce. Giordano and even Regehr/Bouwmeester looked pretty good in this game. And now we are no longer in last! A few wins in a row and maybe the players will be playing well enough to be traded. I sure hope that’s the plan.

Flames 3 – Wild 2 (Shootout)

Yeah they got the win, but they only gained one point on the team right above them – which happens to be Minnesota. I did think Henrik Karlsson played quite well, especially the save off his head.

Canucks 7 – Flames 2

02 Dec

You wouldn’t know it by the score, but this was a pretty good game through two periods. It’s funny because my prediction of “and the Canucks will score three unanswered goals in the third to win 6-2” wasn’t far off. Highlight of the game? When it ended.

So now I’m officially ready. Let’s do it… let’s pull the plug on this team while they are still valuable (in others’ eyes).

Here is what I want:

  • I want to keep Backlund, Bourque, Hagman, Moss and Giordano.
  • I’d trade Iginla and Glenncross for Brayden Schenn and Jack Johnson in L.A.
  • I’d trade Kiprusoff for Jacob Markstrom and Erik Gudbranson in Florida.
  • I want to trade Jokinen for those nachos they sell with the fake cheese in the Saddledome.
  • I’d keep Kotalik and Tanguay until the draft and see what I could get (if anything) for either of them. Maybe package them together for Elisha Cuthbert? Dion probably wouldn’t go for that. Avery would have.
  • I’d let Sarich and Staios walk.
  • I’d trade Regher for Cody Hodgson, as the Canuckleheads are in need of a good defenceman.
  • Who does that leave? Matt Stajan? I’d trade him for a pick in 2012 as well. Doesn’t even matter which round, preferrably the second.

That would constitute about three years of Oiler-esque suckage. But is that so bad? For all of our so-called talent on paper, we are only one point up on the hapless Oil.
